My Pugsley is 1x9 and I agree it's totally sufficient. The problem in my stable is it's an outlier, so I can't share any parts with other bikes. In fact, I now have 9, 10, 11 and 12 speed bikes, meaning I have to carry spare chain links for all of those speeds in the shared saddlebag :)
