I think 38s are great for a 200 pounder like me, but if you weigh 110 like my daughter, they are overkill, and she does fine with 32s or even 28s. And I gotta admit, I've got 30s on my road bike and they feel good. My road bike is set up optimally for smooth road riding, I've got other bikes for rougher stuff. If you can have more than one bike, I don't see the sense in trying to make everyone of them an all rounder.
