I position my saddles far back on longish rails -- Flite + Dura Ace 7410 IIRC; perhaps strapping bags to rails of saddles mounted forward might not work as well; but then again you can always make a stand-off and someone -- forget whom -- made thick and nice looking leather standoffs, but I've used wood and PVC (only to discover I didn't really need them).
