When I lived in the DC area, College Park Bikes in Maryland was one of my favorite bike shops. You can take the Metro out there from DC. It's sister shop, Mount Airy Bicycles, is also neat, but is a bit further from DC, and unless Metro lines have been extended, Mount Airy Bicycles is not accessible on Metro.
A couple of other nice shops that are not quite as Rivish are City Bikes in Adams-Morgan and Bicycle Pro Shop in Georgetown. Enjoy the viist.
