For thorns? Have you tried sealant in tubes? I find that OS *REGULAR* works almost as well in tubes at pressures over 30 psi as OS Reg or Endurance in low pressure tubeless tires; and I live where the goatheads flock and play.
My RH Elk Passes and Naches Passes are both paper thin EL models and with OS *REGULAR* in the tubes I often pick up goatheads and watch them rotate before breaking or falling off, yet very rarely have to patch a puncture. (You can patch tubes containing sealant if you are careful and clean.) FWIW, I've also used sealant (by Specialized?) in tubes in 3" tires at =/< 15 psi on the Monocog 29er and that works too if you don't mind adding extra cups and pounds of sealant to already heavy tubes. It was only for the weight that I switched to "ghetto" tubeless with lots of tape (700C X 3" WTB Rangers on too-narrow 24 mm OW Alex OEM rims) and after you build up a bit of semi-dry sealant caulk around the beads it works very well.
