Hard to beat the stock setup. I finally upgraded my rear wheel (Rich-built Phil - just gorgeous!) as the original Suzue was getting a bit tired and wobbly after 4+ years of hard use. The 40/32 setup up front probably has ideal chainline right between the two sprockets, if you are using the 113 mm bb. But, it does not make an excessive amount of noise - it isn't dead-quiet like my only-fixed commuter, but it's silent enough for these rock-n-roll tested ears. I know that pedestrians and hikers don't notice it. As far as freewheels go, if you have to buy one, those "Dos" freewheels from White Industries are pretty tempting. Ray S. has a nice setup for a variety of surfaces - http://cyclofiend.com/ssg/2007/ssg074-rayshine0307.html The only thing to be aware of is range of the rear fork end. For example, I have a 14T fixed on the one side, and that puts it off the tips if I tried to run 32/14. The 32/18 just works, with the chain length I'm running. I've been thinking about dropping one link pair out to see how that would work. (Each tooth difference on the rear will move the axle 1/8"/3 mm) More Quickbeam setups here: http://cyclofiend.com/rbw/quickbeam - Jim -- Jim Edgar cyclofi...@earthlink.net Cyclofiend Bicycle Photo Galleries - http://www.cyclofiend.com Current Classics - Cross Bikes Singlespeed - Working Bikes Gallery updates now appear here - http://cyclofiend.blogspot.com "Nigel did some work for some of the other riders at Allied, onces who still rode metal.
