I don't think you can, as the cable pull will be incompatible. However, you can use a friction barend shifter with the double compact, which is how I ran my AHH for a short time. Sram double compact front and Shimano 9 speed rear with Shimano barend shifters. I don't recall if Sram's barend shifters can be used in friction mode; I seem to recall that the front is friction, but the rear is indexed only.
