I use the 60s off road all the time for two reasons, first because my off road rides also include a lot of pavement and there is nothing in cycling more horrible than grimly, despairingly driving a fat, soft, 29" knobby along pavement against a strong headwind; and second, because the BAs shrug off our local goatheads so well. Yesterday I mistakenly rode through a 1/4 mile field and came out with, literally, *literally*, I say, over a hundred thorns in both wheels -- I held a stick against the tires and spun the wheels to flick them off and they were flying like water spray. Today the tires have lost no air. I cannot say as much for any knobby I've used.
They have poor traction on loose surfaces -- I ride in sand -- but the float helps make up for it if you run them quite low; I run the front as low as 12 psi (200 lb bike and rider) without fear of pinch flats. Note that I do have 45 mm wide rims (the BAs measure 65 mm on these rims). On Sat, May 8, 2010 at 10:56 AM, Rene Sterental <orthie...@gmail.com> wrote: > Has anyone used Big Apples off-road?
