The Rivendell Saluki was named for the dog, a strong, swift runner over varied terrain. An attractive canine, it looks kind of like a long-haired greyhound. I remember no more detail about Grant¹s intent.
I had the privilege of designing the decals and badges for it under the direction of John Price, who owns both bike and dog, and who helped me make the headbadge image look less like a bloodhound and more like a Saluki. All of the above is purely from my memory; I¹m sure others could add more. I wonder if anyone knows where to find information about the naming. Was this a favorite dog of Grant's or did the name make reference to a literary dog? This could be another vein for names...Airedale, Springer, Retriever for a grocery bicycle? Thanks!
