Thanks again, all. I've found what ought to work well. The nearest LBS sold me a size 44.5 pair of Specialized "2FO Roost Clip" shoes that are discreetly designed and colored, flat-bottomed with SPD cleat well, have wide toe box, and are lace-up to comfortably accommodate both thicker winter socks and thin summer socks or bare feet, and are only $130.00. They get decent reviews, the one real negative remark I saw in a quick review search being that they are too flexible for best power transfer. For my use, which will certainly be light use, flexible is good, and they're no more so than the Five Tens I also own. The only thing I don't like about the shoes is the silly name.
Someone suggested Five-Ten flat bottom shoes. I did buy a pair of these for the clips and straps on the Monocog, but after considering clips and straps for other bikes, as well as the MKS QR pedals, I decided the easiest and cheapest thing to do, with the least compromise of to comfort and simplicity all around, was to buy a pair of shoes like this that I can use with all my bikes (even the clips and straps on the Monocog, as I discovered). -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
