Hi Jonathan, As it happens, i’ve converted both a romulus and a rambouillet from 700c to 650b. I had a saluki as well to compare against. I would say both frames largely retained similar handling characteristics, with a slight increase in ‘wanderability’ on the front end and obviously a cushier ride all over. The romulus languishes in a closet as a frameset at present, the ram is presently still setup w grand bois hetres at 650b, but hasn’t been out for a ride in half a year.
The fact of the matter is I’m completely occupied w my toyo Atlantis. Its the bike i use to commute and its the bike i’d pull down to go for a fun ride or a short tour. For me, it makes owning more than one bike just seem wasteful; i like it more than any other bike, ever. In fact, i find myself worrying about my tendency to hop curbs and ride rough, if it breaks i’ll need to find another. And sometimes i think i should start stock piling atlanti against that future possibility. In an effort to justify owning more than one bike, i’ve been think about electrifying my clementine. It might make a nice commuter for last minute overtime shifts or days when i’m just feeling a bit low energy. But if you want to ride a wider tire, converting to 650b should accomplish that for you without drastically altering the ride.
