I actually just did this yesterday with some ESI grips on my Albatross
bars. I was re-cabling my bike so I didn't have bar-end shifters installed
that I was working around, but I found the process much easier than I
anticipated. I used glass cleaner instead of hand sanitizer. I've also
heard that hairspray works well. I just put the cabling in the ESI grip and
slipped them both on together. I used a bit more cabling than I needed so I
could cut the extra at the bar-end. If you try to pull from the other size
to get it even, it slips through rather easily, and you'll have to start
over (this got me twice).
