Joel Your chain rings look pretty good to me. I don't see signs of 'shark fins'.
I have good luck with a KMC X8 chains, 8 speed chain on a 7 speed cassette with a 9sp Deore M591SGS RD. They are about $15 on Amazon and come with the removable link.
