It's very likely not the right thing to do. Many of the wide 700Cs intended for hybrid use have astonishingly high pressures on their sidewalls. At ~200 lb I comfortably and safely use 32mm tires at around 70 psi -- a little less in front, a little more in back, and never have pinch flats.
