Ortlieb designs its panniers to German government safety standards. I expect there has been a lot of research behind the material color choice. When I come up behind someone with Ortliebs on tour, I always notice the reflectors first. Well before I can make out any detail of the bike or rider. Someone who buys hi vis panniers wants > to be seen. Personally, I feel that I am most vulnerable to cars > coming from the rear.
