Because there is more to a bike and how it rides than how high the
seat is and how high the h'bars are. That's not even getting into
looks or construction. If all that mattered was function we'd all be
on Surlys. If his question is "Why is your bike better than mine?", I
think a few looks and a short ride would make it obvious. If his
question is "why should I buy one of those?", I think the answer is
that he shouldn't. We all buy things and with everything there is a
wide range of quality, brands, and durability but the function is the
same. A $2 thrift store shirt has the exact same function as a $75 new
one and 90% of the looks to boot. But I think most people would agree
there is an obvious difference. If all he needs is a CL special, then
that is th perfect bike for him-- much like the $2 shirt would be
perfect if I needed something to paint the house in.
Cheers!
