Wyatt, Rich & R Shannon, Just to add another wrinkle, here is how we three (traveling from Richmond, Va.) decided to handle the transport: We drove one vehicle with bike rack for the three bikes down to Nashville and spent the night in an inexpensive motel. We had purchased a $50 second-hand rack to fit the back of the hatchback on a rental van. (Most are about the same now, ours turned out to be a new Dodge. The rental places will usually give you a range of possible vehicles brands.) We chose a motel near the rental place in Nashville and had asked permission in advance to leave our vehicle there, which was acceptable. We loaded the van with our gear, installed the simple hatch rack and bikes and drove to Natchez. We had checked beforehand about having a drop-off location in Natchez and there was a small place, which suited us just fine. We gifted the $50 rack to a young mother working there who said she could use it for her kids, loaded the gear on the bikes and rode the few miles to the start of the Trace and began our ride in late afternoon. We camped at the first site available that night. After arriving back in Nashville, two of us stayed at the Loveless Motel restaurant after eating their great barbecue, while the designated driver called for an Uber to take him to pick up his vehicle. He drove back to us, we loaded the bikes and spent the night in a motel on the other side of Nashville. Drove back to Richmond the next day. While all that took some planning, it worked like a charm for us and was the main reason to ride from South-to-North. I hope this helps you plan your trip. It is something of a one-off for us, but I would not mind going back if we could plan it the other way around and perhaps make some more stops, perhaps at Vicksburg, etc. Paul

We met back up in Natchez where a few of our friends live. I did the ride in 5 days, which is about as many nights in a row that I want to camp these days. Plenty of good quiet places to hang a hammock, didn't seem to really matter if they were designated as "camp sites" or not. Would have been happy to add a night and break it up with a log cabin stay in French Camp, in retrospect. I realize that's not much of a tip in terms of accommodations, but it is a convenient arrangement if you can swing it... Paul - nice pics, looks like a fun crew. I rode right past French Camp thinking I might regret that decision and now I really do! Spring or Fall are definitely recommended. We chose south-to-north to "follow" the emerging spring weather. Apparently the Spring can be more volatile (tornadoes) though. We saw evidence of that from two weeks before in southern Miss. I have also contemplated doing the trail.Fall would also be my choice for best time to do the ride. How long did your trip take and what did you do for accommodations? Thank you! That's the hilliest section of riding and just about every 15 or 20 miles there is another clear creek or waterfall to cool off in. Lots of trees, great hammock camping, worth taking it slow. Don't miss the old CCC swinging bridge hidden at the back of Tishomingo State Park, especially because it leads to the last good creek on the route. Around Tupelo, you hit the mosquito line and the bugs start coming out in thick black clouds ready to eat you alive. Be prepared. Definitely take the bike path detour off the Trace that passes through Jackson, not only does it get you out of bad traffic, but it's also just a nice ride. The last 125 miles or so are hot and mostly flat and good for a fast finish if you have it in you. (I was ready for it to be over.) I'd do it again, but probably in the late fall.
