It's a thing I insist upon on my Twitter feed, although harder to pull off now than when I started there nearly a decade ago. I've made some incredible lifelong friends - some I've since met in person - because I reached out to people I disagree with.
Incidentally studies show that people who cross aisles tend to soften their most extreme beliefs.
