I won't attempt to answer your question, but I will say that thinking in 
the U.S. has become so binary that any remark one makes is often enough for 
people to immediately assign you a label, and all the attributes they 
associate with that label now become attached to you (if not the bike you 
rode in on.) To me, that is the greatest danger, the inability of a 
country's citizens to think, discern, write, speak with any nuance. Hard to 
have any real understanding or empathy if we can't at least do that.
