I don't know about Joe's build, but Campagnolo Ergopowers can usually be paired with Shimano non-Dyna-Sys rear derailleurs to shift cassettes that are N-2 speeds. For example, 10-speed Ergopowers with pretty much any non-Dyna-Sys Shimano rear derailleur will shift Shimano/SRAM 8-speed cassettes. 11-speed Ergopowers will also work with the same derailleurs to shift 9-speed Shimano/SRAM cassettes.
