Seattle....what Shawn (Soapscum) said above On the steel bike they stay on full time mostly due to the fact that its ..uh..Seattle and also due to the removal hassle factor - VO fluted not exactly quick release ;-) but I have the luxury that my "go fast" circa 1999 Aluminum Cannondale R800 goes fender-less for those sunny days when I want to ride with fast friends.
The funny thing is that I tried to adapt the R800 to a more "all rounder" type bike a while back and got a bike that did nothing well. Once I built up the steel steed to be the comfort/commuter/rain/errand/ noodling around bike I stripped the R800 down and put it back to "race bike" mode and now its light (relatively) twitchy (in a good way) and fast, or at least as fast as it will go with me riding it. Is it wrong that I am lusting after a 3rd road bike (AMOS/San Marcos) for my stable? ...... wait a sec look who I'm asking!
