I've done a few multi-day camp tours on mine. I know that's not like going cross-country but I tend to bring all the creature comforts of home along with me, including tent, cot, folding camp chair and enough water to travel through high dry desert. Compared to my 83 Expedition it handles steep climbs wonderfully holding a steady line when the going gets slow. I've descended 40 mph full-load and not once felt like I would lose control. Fat tires are heavenly on dirt washboard roads.
