I'm not an accountant and this is not accounting advice...  Perhaps there 
is a CA accountant here.  I work with accounting software, so it's not an 
unfamiliar topic to me and I'm not an expert, but then again, I'm not an 
accountant and this is not accounting advice...  :)

My understanding is that it is the delivery location and nexus (does the 
business has a presence in the delivery state?)  that determines the sales 
tax.  

I'll probably fly in, enjoy the party (hopefully we'd have one) and then 
have the bike sent to PA.  Or I'd buy it from the "sort of local" RIV 
dealer, 718 Cyclery, save the shipping but pay NY tax instead.  We could do 
a day trip from LV--it would be a short and I think inexpensive flight.  9 
hour car trip is a LONG trip.  But, you think you'd be able to tear 
yourself away from your new baby to save $500?  I bet you could get them to 
ship your bike out right after you leave, so you wouldn't need to wait to 
long for the reunion.

No matter what you decide, it will be FUN, I'm sure!
