I don't ride too much in the dark these days, but I do it as it gets dark to the end of my ride. I currently use USB rechargeables. I remember in college having a light generator that looked like an old soda bottle. I flipped it down for contact on the wheel to generate the light. I did like that, because in college I rode in the dark a lot.
How much weight do dyno lights add? I'm already struggling with the weight of my Appaloosa with accessories when I need to lift and carry it.
