I’ve got the beginning of an R12 going. I missed the December San Francisco
Randonneurs event and made up for it yesterday with a solo 200k Permanent. I
had done the route once before in 2011. It’s an odd route, called “Tour of OC
Bike Paths”. It’s a big diamond shaped route around south Orange County
featuring several bike path sections. Some of those path sections are
meandering and windy with tons of turns at forks that makes the miles move
slowly, particularly when you are sharing the path with walkers.

At any rate, it was a nice 145 mile day that started and finished in the dark.
It was flat by SFR standards with a little under 6000ft of climbing. I did it
on my Black Mountain Cycles road bike, making it my fifth different bike for
2018 brevets. It was my first 200k with helmet mounted lighting and that worked
fine. It was my first 200k on an original Flite saddle and that worked out well
also. My 2x8 DT friction drivetrain was ample. My RuthWorks storm series bags
gave me all the capacity I needed. The lowlight was I forgot to bring a Mount
for my Wahoo so the GPS lived in a jersey pocket. Riv content included: silver
shifters, MUSA wool base layer, khaki newbaums, a rear triangle reflector, and
attitude.

Happy New Year
