Jonathan, thank you. I had a 46 Noodle on my side pull (pre-canti) 58 Sam,
as I do on my 61 Roadini, so comparing them to my 61.5 MIT Homer needs to
take that into account.

Technically, as I'm sure you know, the MIT Homer and side pull Sam are
almost identical. I like my 61.5 Homer better than my former 58 Sam
because I think my 58 Sam was a tad undersized. At 61.5, the Homer feels
and looks right - for me (6'-0.5" tall, 90.5 PBH). I'm one of those people
that will now go for the bigger Riv frame every time, given 2 close
options, simply because I have enough experience with them now, and know
I'll like the fit of the larger frame better. Other riders' preferences
might not be the same. Speed, acceleration, maneuverability, stability,
etc. are toss ups between the two, at least if you're comparing 700c to
700c comparable frame sizes. And my Sam was a side pull, so there's the
canti vs side pull part of the equation for some. Maybe if you're bombing
down, or going up, super steep hills, you might appreciate the slightly
longer Homer chain stays, but I don't have that situation. Color is so
personal; I loved the burnt orange Sam (and still get to enjoy looking my
wife's burnt orange Sam), but I also -*really- *like the Homer blue. As
far as paint job/quality goes, I would say they are identical (including
decals). However, the Homer blue paint itself has more depth; it's a more
complex/layered color. Bottom line for me: If I had a Sam that fit me, I
would not buy an MIT Homer. I would, however, consider painting that Sam
Homer blue :)

My 61 Roadini feels lighter, slightly quicker to accelerate, and has a
touch more sensitive steering than either Homer or Sam. It feels, and is,
more compact. It's my sports car. If I were to put a 120mm stem and an
Ahearne+Map bar on it, I would expect the Roadini's attributes to remain,
though I'd be more upright. It would feel like a different bike from my
others though; close in geometry to the others, but different enough.

I don't know if that helps you any, but there you have it!

Tom
