I use the Nitto saddlebag wire guard (Riv link below) with cantilever rear brakes https://www.rivbike.com/products/nitto-wire-guard-20189
with a Carradice type bag (Schwinn approved Model 00-015) a Large 70's Japanese Schwinn bag and an Ostrich S-2. The bags are heavy enough to contact the guard. The wire guard keeps all 3 bags off of the rear brake cable. The bag sits on the guard and the cable is below the top of the guard. My frame size is 21" C-T.
