Helping my friend's wife clean out a garage he rented in the alley next to
theirs after his passing, I found a perfectly preserved NOS Michelin tire
of a model (XZX) that is prized among vintage sports car enthusiasts both
for its quality and the visually stunning, instantly recognizable tread
pattern. I figured someone would have desire for it enough to keep it
figuratively out of the dumpster.

A guy from Texas jumped on the listing on the bay where I priced it for
selling, not intrinsic value. He has restored Austin Healy 100-6 with those
tires and some sharp trash on the road terminally cut one of his prized
XZXs right at the tread/sidewall junction. He'd been hoping to find a
newish one to prevent having to settle for a set some less iconic ones.
After my careful preparation with input from a place that ships lots of
tires, a certain package company lost the tire in transit.

My friend's widow and I couldn't lament the loss of the nominal price of
the tire but the loss of appreciated value and objectified need left
unsatisfied was awful. Selling forum and shipper resolved transaction and
shipping costs.
