I'll second the benefit of investment in cold/wet weather vestments. While
not nearly the extreme s of Patrick's ventures, mine have become sort of
mundane and my shell layers have stopped representing disappointment by
year two or three's use.

My commuting travels rarely produce such vivd imagery. I did have a
memorable Christmas eve the other year when my wife went to her folks'
since I was working both the eve and Christmas day.

I came out to a steady snow and I took the right turn instead of the normal
left in complete desolation of traffic, people and quiet. I rode into
downtown to Market Square where a kind bar keeper poured me a holiday
libation I enjoyed outside on a bench in the falling snow.

I took the long way home around the Point and Monongahela River's trail,
Panther Hollow and through the university neighborhoods home and a quick
sleep before the ride to work in the morning. I felt like I slept a century

One of my favorite ride moments, although it's in my mind and I cannot
share a picture.
