I'm closing in on my first ever fully-documented 5000-mile year. Towards
that goal I've endeavored to get 1000 miles in on each of my
regular-rotation bikes. Once I get a bike over 1000 miles, I set it aside
to focus on other steeds in the stable. First was my 56cm 2009 Hillborne,
which I took over 1000 miles in June. I just did the San Francisco
Randonneurs Winters 200k brevet and that got my Niner RLT9 over 1000
miles. Today my Rosco Bubbe Road bike reaches 1000 miles. Rosco-Road is
my daily commuter. I typically ride it from El Cerrito, down to Lake
Merritt BART. I take BART to Hayward and ride to Union City. Going home I
do the reverse. That logs ~36 miles every commute, so 1000 miles pile up
pretty quickly. There probably are not a lot of Rosco Bubbe's that have
been ridden over 1000 miles. Here is ashot of Rosco in Oakland.:

One highlight of Rosco is that I'm really enjoying the 2x6 friction
drivetrain. I'm running 39/25 chainrings and a 13/15/17/20/23/26
freewheel, which gives me everything I need and nothing I don't for my
commute. One cool part is I can totally tell exactly which gear I'm in
just by pedaling. I don't have to look. It's almost like golf clubs.
Each gear has it's own unmistakeable identity. The bike is super solid and
rides great even with a huge handlebar bag. If I was leaving on a
month-long loaded tour tomorrow, I'd seriously consider using Rosco. Other
unique quirks about it is I "upgraded" to a bolt on rear wheel, since 130mm
OLD freewheel hubs have been more likely to bend axles. Also, I think this
is the only Rivendell with a level top tube.

Taking Roscos place as my daily commute bike will be my Gunnar
Doublespeed. The next bikes to achieve 1000-mile status will be my MTB
(Niner Air9) and then my 57cm Leo Roadini.
