I’ve used it for years.

In my usage, the bag sits lower. Maybe 1-2cm? This with a Brooks B17. I have 
used the strap technique successfully on some rackless occasions to keep a bag 
from pressing on my fender.

Surprising to me was the realization that while the QR feature was nice, the 
fact that it provides a handle for the bag was at least as important on my 
daily bike-train-walk commute. An old-school SaddleSack Medium or Large, a 
load-stopped Nitto rack, and the R50 meant I never had to buckle/unbuckle a 
thing but could haul substantial loads without worry, both on and off the bike.
