Ditto.  I had the exact same problem with the rear wheel on one of my bikes 
and was convinced that it was coming either from the drive train back there 
or the hub.  Turned out to be the valve stem on a new tube I had installed, 
one that was smooth and un-threaded all the way to the rim hole (no jamb 
nut) and fit a bit loosely.  It was toggling back and forth slightly on 
each rotation.  A piece of plastic tape where the valve stem meets the 
rubber tube and the noise was gone.
