Reed, that’s my recollection too. However, Shimano did the large pulley thing to increase chain wrap and not to reduce friction. To be honest, this friction reason may be measurable, but inconsequential (much like extreme weight-weenieism). 1-odd Watts of savings? Pfft! My farts have more thrust that that!
