Hi Joe, Actually Bullmoose bars offer two positions, grip area for upright position, and grabbing near center triangle offers fairly forward-leaning position. I've added a pair of Dia-Compe knob grips (DC 138) near the triangle to have even more aggressive position. https://www.flickr.com/photos/77318553@N08/35426227050/
The longest ride I've done with Bullmoose was about 60km (38 miles), mostly on pavement, and I had no hand problems. I was kind of surprised that it was so comfortable (I was expecting it to be a torture). Here is my guess as to why it was so comfortable: Jan Heine wrote "there are only a few nerve endings in the base of your thumb, making this area ideal for resting on the handlebars" in his blog. https://janheine.wordpress.com/2010/12/11/avoiding-numb-hands/ With Bullmoose's upslope, combined with long top tube of Riv bikes, my hands tend to slip toward center of handlebars (toward the stem). My hands are stopped at the brake levers, and most the weight on my hands are supported at the base of my thumbs. I believe that's why I had no hand numbness during the ride.
