I am running the Nitto M12 + Tubus duo lowrider racks, I can add or remove the duo's in about 15 minutes for a camping trip or a brevet, depending on what kind of ride i'm doing. So far, it has been a pretty versatile setup. I have never used a big-rack, so I can't make a direct comparison, but the front end feels very rigid when fully loaded. I also have through-the-fork lowrider mounts. I wouldn't trust too much weight on mid-fork brazed on eyelets.
