Another way to check is to remove the tire, turn it inside out and fold it back on itself. Oftentimes there is a little discoloration in the casing where the thorn/wire/shard etc...is.
Having the tire folded back on itself often raises the tip of the offending bits. I’ve never ever felt defeat, there’s no frickin way a thorn will get the best of me. I’ll waste triple the value of the tire just in tenacity to find it. I encourage the same behavior from my dogs when they figure out mice are vermin.
