It depends on what you're looking to accomplish. I spent thousands of dollars on a custom Bike Friday NWT, dreaming of having a bike with me whenever I traveled.
After three trips I sold it at a significant loss. A Friday is almost as much trouble to pack and carry around boxed as a traditional bike in a Trico case. But when you get where you're going it won't ride as well as the traditional bike. I knew that, but bought one anyway because I thought the trailer suitcase would be magic, allowing me to do easy point-to-point tours, flying in to one airport and out another. In practice, the trailer was an utter dog to pull, robbing almost all the joy from my riding. It was fragile as well, breaking in a couple different ways in not-terribly intense use. It also doubled the number of flat tires I got. I stopped using the trailer, and without the trailer there's not much point to a Friday, at least for me. They do save money on airline fees, though. The only reason I would go back to a Friday is if I were flying with a bike several times a month on my own dime.
