Upon closer inspection these Shimano BE pods are slightly different from the Riv ones, these have an extra bump on them (see here https://photos.app.goo.gl/FW3YnEnRW2oVndP83). So easy option is to get the Shimano washers and use shimano shifters.
if you want to use non-shimano shifters and the square washers, you'll need to spend some time filing off the bump.
