The recent Leica diversion on the MIT Atlantis thread just triggered an
idea... and although off topic, not by far considering the Riv & film
photography connection and my proposed arrangement:

For those of you that shoot film and/or collect cameras/Leica stuff, anyone
interested in buying a Leica/Leitz Summicron-C 40mm f2 lens through
purchase and exchange of a Rivendell gift certificate? My bike budget has
completely dried up and I haven't placed a new order with Riv in over year
(aside from a recent hail mary.) I have a few simmering ideas but no funds
to execute so I'm now thinking it's time to let this lens go to help fund
some future bike projects and further support Riv at the same time. A Riv
gift certificate combined with my hail mary and remaining rivendollars
would be a huge help and keep the funds earmarked for a Riv project rather
than get siphoned for other necessary expenses.

The lens is originally for the Leica/Minolta collab CL camera from the
80's but fits several other M mount bodies (although framelines may not be
exact for those not specd for 40mm lenses.) I don't have a CL camera body
(or any other M mount for that matter) to go with it and although I
intended to obtain one years ago my interest in film faded and the project
fell to the wayside. I also became concerned about investing in an older
CL body and then discovered Voigtlander Bessa R3 models feature 40mm
framelines and 1:1 magnification which I thought would have made a great
combo but was still out of my league and just never came to fruition. As
previously noted, I never got back into shooting film like I had thought
and just don't see it happening anytime soon with limited time/funds having
recently become a first time father (8 months now) but if I ever do manage
it I still have a couple old mechanical, fixed lens rangefinders and a
Minolta X-700 to mess around with.

I won't attempt to rate the condition of the lens having never used it and
being far from an expert on such matters but it's clean with no cosmetic or
structural damage and has been safely stored indoors with caps on both ends
and comes with retractable rubber lens hood and a 5.5 series filter.)

I actually found the lens years ago sitting on a park bench next to a lake
I regularly fished when I lived nearby. I was unsuccessful in finding the
owner who had unfortunately left it behind that day and even kept an eye
out for anyone shooting with a camera every time I fished or visited
that part of the park thereafter. I eventually brought the lens to a local
camera shop but they had no record of it in their system through serial
# and was otherwise unable to arrange an amicable sale or trade (although
they had several CL bodies available they seemed highly overpriced and they
had no interest in offering any credit for trading any of my other cameras
or equipment to offset some of the cost of a CL body to go with the lens.)

I've searched ebay (sold listings, not asking prices) and found the same
exact lenses selling for $400-$700+

I'm asking $300 in form of a Riv gift certificate and I'll cover shipping.

No photos available at the moment but I'll upload a couple later and/or
will provide pics directly to anyone upon request.

Also open to other offers/interesting trades.

Thanks,
Brian Cole
