Yesterday I changed stems and had to unwrap one side of the bars. I sliced the cloth a little towards the stem and then unwrapped. It came off much easier than I expected. Luckily I had some extra tape and did not try an save the old stuff. Before reapplying I wiped the bare bar down with a little denatured alcohol.
