Joe, I use a small piece of metal at the bottom attachment spot, according to Bruce my rack is an old one that used an attachment style that didn't work well for me, you had to thread a bolt from the inside of the threaded eyelet of the fork into a threaded cyclinder, I had this break once while touring and it was a pain to repair, I happened to be visiting a friend who was well connected at a local shop, we had to drill out the broken bolt and use an easy out. I would include a picture but rack and bike is packed, leaving for a trip on Wednesdsay. This piece I use allows me to have about an 1-1 1/2" of flexibility in where the low rider sits. Its 8 1/4" from the front eyelet to the mid fork. Its a 2000 All Rounder for 700C. I put together a Trek 930 with a LHT fork for this upcoming ride. I had to use rack struts for the mid fork, I will send you pictures once I get on the road, I thought the AR was too nice for packing into a box, and I prefer to tour on 26 x 2.0, this bike has Big Apples that are 56 wide. Have you sold all of the BG racks ? I was very impressed that you were able to put that together. Steve
