No notion of a time limit ever came up with me. Everybody at Riv knows I'm using my credit when I'm buying things, and I'm friendly with them all. If any of them had any reason to request that I use it, I'm sure they would say something. Dave, in particular, is the one who sweats the cash-flow details the most. He'd call me and tell me to try to get it off the books if he needed me to do so. If they do it again next year and you are tempted, you should call Dave and talk about it. If you knew for a fact that you would sit on your credit for years and years with no intention to use it at all, I suspect they wouldn't want to get into that. If you need to have detailed black and white terms in writing and need to avoid talking to them, then it's probably not the best thing for you. I spend a fair bit there, so they know it's going to get used.
