Think that it’s presence is neutral. Personally, even on a 1200k, I prefer my 
stuff in the handlebar bag, and it holds everything I need. 

Patrick Moore: I read exhaustively about randonneuring shen I took it up. I 
remember seeing one photo of Lon’s bike in a riders report. Lam posted perhaps 
the same link in a previous thread here. It is in Chip Caldwell’s ride report 
of the 2003 PBP, which is on the RUSA site. I can’t get either link to work

I remember the bike as having been a custom. I don’t remember it having a rack 
but I don’t claim to have anything near total recall. I believe it was a fixed 
gear, though.
