By what method did you determine that the click on one side was coming from the pedal? Is it just judgement? That's where the sound seems to be coming from? Or did you confirm it be swapping to different pedals and observing the sound was gone?
I ask because as a team mechanic for about 30 highschoolers, I get plenty of "Bill, my bike clicks when I pedal hard". It can be the saddle, seatpost, BB, crank arm, chainring, cassette body, cassette, rear hub, rear dropout, suspension pivot, spokes... It can even be headset related. Determining which subsystem is actually making the sound is the first, and sometimes hardest part of fixing it. Even if it isn't the pedals, overhauling them is a noble exercise.
