Good thinking! Nighttime visibility is extra important in rainy Portland because everyone's windshield is fogged up.
I got a $12 light (USB rechargable!) for my hub that allows people to see me from the side. I commute on lots of side streets and this really helps. This is my first season trying it, so we'll see how long it lasts. So far so good though.
