Doug, they're 9-speed Microshift thumbshifters that set up like this on most bikes: Right/rear shifter has 9 hard clicks or pure friction. Left/front is friction only with a ratchety feature similar to Suntour/Silver Power Ratchet.
Now flip that for CLEM: The ratchety friction shifter goes on right/rear, and the index/pure-friction-no-ratchety goes left/front. So you have a nice Power Ratchet for the rear and pure friction front. It's fabulous, you'll like it.
