I've flown with bikes on Southwest several times. The only drawback is that
TSA always opens the cases, nothing was ever damaged however the contents were
always shifted and moved.

I've been very pleased with bike flights and then don't have to issue with both
our luggage and the bike case or cases at the same time. I can ship the bikes
in advance and ship to a bike shop, Fed Ex store or to the location where I'm
staying whichever is best. The cost is about the same or less than taking the
bikes on the plane depending on the airline.
