Good morning Owners Bunch (and Julian in particular if you happen to be reading this),

I understand that the HHH is intended to be comfortable and fun. And I am, in fact, a dedicated unracer. With that said, how fast is the HHH compared to other tandems? I know these things are imprecise, but assuming the same riders, would the HHH lose a race to Julian's Bilenky, for example?

At the speeds a tandem can achieve (I've had mine up to 65 mph) aerodynamic resistance is very significant. It would be reasonable to expect that a tandem designed for upright riding positions of captain and stoker would be slower at high speed than one set up with drops and so forth. In my personal experience, at the other end of the speed spectrum, climbing, it's mostly the team driving the tandem rather than the bike itself that determines which is faster. I've seen a powerful team very well in synch together ride away from singles on climbs.

Also, how does HHH cruising speed compare to say, a Sam or a Homer? Will two riders of the same ability on an HHH beat a rider of the same ability (as the HHH riders) on a Sam? If so, by a lot?

If a powerful tandem team is putting the pedal to the metal they can cruise away from any single. The HHH's riding position may compromise that to some extent, but at ~25 mph it's hard to compete with the power of two and the wind resistance of 1.5.
