Hi Tracy,

I moved half way across the country late last year and used U-Pack, one of
the companies that specializes in shipping "cube" moves. I think there are
more than a few companies who do that these days. They drop off the cubes,
you or someone you hire packs it all up, the company then picks up the
cube(s) and ships it to the destination where the reverse happens (you or
someone unpacks, they pick up the cubes). I think it worked a lot better
for me than a moving van, as I could pack, pad and protect everything as
well as possible and there were multiple bikes in there. U-Pack recommended
a local company to help with the packing when I asked about that and it all
went well. I don't remember pricing but I thought it was reasonable
considering the scope and distance. All bikes arrived just fine, as well
as everything else. And, to add to the positives, no disassembly was
necessary for the bikes; I just padded and protected them as they were.

The only downside I can think of was it was necessary to have places
reserved (at the street curb, etc.) for the cubicles to be dropped off, at
the start and end points. I lived in a pretty packed, downtown
neighborhood, but it all worked well. It could also be that the service
is more than you need, though I will say that six well packed and protected
bikes can take more room than you think, and there would be room in a cube
for bulky and soft things - clothes, blankets, whatever. You can ship in
only one cube or you can arrange for more. U-Pack only charged for the
cubes I filled and needed to ship.

Anyway, a thought.... Hope the move goes well!
