One BIG RULE!!! for cutting cable housing. Measure it carefully! Measure it again! And again! And again! *Then* cut!
If I had $5 for every time over the almost-50-years I've been building bikes that I've cut the housing too short, I'd be writing this from Martinique with obsequious servants and lovely damsels hovering around to please me. I *still* cut it too short! And lucked out most recently with the expensive Yokozuna housing for the Matthews's disc brakes -- the front ended up *juuuuust* long enough. Sheesh!
